Villages and Pirates is the |UGA| equivalent of Dungeons and Dragons. Previously, it was only called Dungeons and Dragons and for a short time, |UGA|-RPG until it was formally standardized on 2012 September 23 at 2:50 AM.

Rules

Setup

Players must first setup their character. Characters only have three simple attributes:

  • Name (Optional)
  • Race
  • Class
  • Health

Players must then populate their battle crests (and magic crest if the player is well balanced enough to have one). Crests can be read in further detail in the Crests section.

After populating their crests, the King of the Pirates (who is both a player character and the Dungeon Master) will balance the players accordingly, and then the game can begin.

All new games of Villages and Pirates must have a thread posted in the System Lieutenant Lounge with each person's character setup. Kings of the Pirates should also synopsize the game on the forums when it is finished.

Crests

There are four types of crests in Villages and Pirates, and each player gets the following crests by default:

  • 2 Movement Crests (Free)
  • 2 Battle Crests (Varies)
  • 1 Magic Crest (20-sided die)
  • 1 Ability Crest (20-sided die)

Movement Crests

Movement Crests are used to move around the world. They are also used to measure distance in the world. Some standards exist:

  • Entering buildings takes 1 movement crest.
  • A Village is 1 movement crest in every direction.
  • A Town is 2x2 movement crests. This means that the outside of the town can be reached from the center of town in one movement crest, but going from one side of the city to another requires two movement crests.
  • A City is 4x4 movement crests.

Battle Crests

Battle Crests are crests used for offense and defense. The player is given a lot of leniency in choosing Battle Crests. The King will either specify a maximum number of points (12/18) that can be combined into 1 to 4/6 Battle Crests.

Crests can either be offensive or defensive in nature, and can also be specialized. The lowest sided die allowed is a three-sided die. Some examples are:

  • (1d6) short sword and a (1d6) buckler. Bucklers will be able to block other attacks, but not natural elements.
  • (1d6) staff and (1d6) barrier. Barriers can block ranged and natural damage, but can be pierced by swords.
  • (1d12) long sword. The player would not be able to defend oneself, but would have a chance of dealing high damage.
  • (4d3) shurikens. Guarantee of doing at least 4 damage every turn.

Magic Crests

Magic Crests can only be used if the player starts with or has obtained a magic item. The magic crest can be used after attacks, but must be used before Ability Crests.

Ability Crests

Ability Crests are generic. They can essentially be any request by the player to the King, but should be relative to the player's class. The more ridiculous the request, the less of a chance it has to work.

History

2012 April 7

This session of V&P lasted from 4:24 PM to 4:10 AM the next day.

Assuming that this was the first instance of Villages and Pirates, we all started in a tavern. White was a Ranger in black gear. Sox207 was a mage in a blue robe with a brown mage's cap whose face was hidden.

Outside of the tavern, the village was revealed to be by the ocean. There are docks to the south, houses to the east, and a forest to the north.

At some point in time, Sox207 tried to throw his poop at PatPeter, only for PatPeter to open two portals in each of his hands so that the poop went back and hit Sox.

Gastrofizzy went to the docks and ended up fighting some pirates. Sox207 went into the forest, and after three turns eventually reached the mountains. After another three turns traversing the inside of the mountain, Sox207 found a portal that teleported him to a white, celestial room where he could see everyone in the world below him.

The game eventually ended when we went into the basement of the tavern, found a gameboard of the world were on, and looked upon ourselves looking at the gameboard looking at ourselves...
